Has anyone's interest in this actually faded over the years?

I am in my late forties and I have had this since I was a teenager. It has been a constant, quiet fact about me the whole time.

Lately I have found myself wondering whether it changes as people get older. Not whether it should, just whether it does. I do not feel any less interested exactly, but it has a different texture than it did twenty years ago. Less urgent, more comfortable, harder to describe.

For those of you who have been at this a long while, has yours faded, stayed put, or turned into something a bit different? I am curious rather than worried, if that makes a difference to the answers.

Mine has not faded but it has definitely changed shape. In my twenties it was intense and quite visual and slightly frantic. Now it is calmer and much more tied up with a particular person and a particular kind of evening. If you had asked me at thirty whether that counted as fading I would probably have said yes. It was not fading, it was settling.

Mine comes and goes in waves and always has. Months where I barely think about it, then a stretch where it is right there again. I stopped trying to read anything into the pattern years ago.

Honestly, for me it got quieter because everything got quieter. Work, kids, being tired. That is not the preference fading, that is having about forty spare minutes a week. I noticed it came straight back when life let up a bit.

Not faded here at all, and I have been at this a long time. If anything it is stronger, because I have stopped fighting it and that took a lot of energy that is now available for other things. I would gently say that people who expect it to fade are often hoping it will.
