Socks on or socks off, where does everyone land?

A daft one for a wet Wednesday. Where do people here stand on socks?

I ask because it seems to genuinely divide the room whenever it comes up in passing. Some people clearly find socks a disappointment, an obstacle between them and the thing they actually like. Others seem to like socks specifically, as their own thing, not as a poor substitute.

I am somewhere in the middle and I have never worked out why. Thin socks do something for me. Thick woolly ones do nothing. Bare is lovely. Which makes no consistent sense at all.

So: on, off, or depends? And if you are a sock person, can you explain it, because I would like to understand my own position better.
