Is a salon pedicure worth it, or am I paying for the chair?

I have never had a pedicure done professionally. I do my own, badly, roughly twice a year, and my feet are not in a state exactly but they are clearly neglected.

The thing stopping me is that I cannot tell what I am actually buying. Is a salon doing something I genuinely cannot do at home with a bit of patience, or is it mostly the nice chair, the warm water and someone else doing the boring parts?

For those of you who go, what do you get out of it that you could not do yourself? And for those who do not, is it just the cost, or have you had a bad one?
