Went to my first proper meetup at the weekend. Everyone I have read on here said it would be relaxed and ordinary and it was, and I still came home feeling flat.

The problem was not that anyone was unwelcoming. It was that everyone else clearly knew each other, there were two conversations going at once, and I ended up sitting slightly outside both of them for about two hours making the occasional comment that landed nowhere. I left after two and a half hours and nobody particularly noticed.

I am not looking for sympathy exactly. I want to know whether this is a first time thing that improves, or whether some groups are just closed and I should try a different one.
